Switch to a Wired Connection

Wireless connections tend to be difficult to troubleshoot due to potential interference from the environment and other radio signals, which can cause lag spikes and/or packet loss in the game. In order to eliminate this factor from our troubleshooting, switch to a wired (Ethernet) connection whenever possible.

Disable any VPNs or Proxy

Make sure you're not using a VPN or a Proxy to connect to a game server, as they can cause a number of connection issues that are impossible to resolve.

A VPN should only be used to test your connection routing path in very specific cases when advised by our Technical Specialists.

Configure Your DNS

If the Riot Client is having trouble connecting to our services, configuring your DNS by updating your DNS settings and flushing your DNS cache may help.

Run the Riot Client as Administrator

Running the Riot Client with administrator permissions can help resolve issues caused by Windows blocking certain actions or files.

Update Windows

Keeping Windows up to date ensures you have the latest security updates, bug fixes, and compatibility improvements.

  1. Open the Start menu.
  2. Search for Windows Update.
  3. Open Windows Update.
  4. Install any available updates.
  5. Restart your computer if prompted.

Update Your Network Adapter Driver (Windows)

Sometimes, outdated network drivers can cause issues playing the game. Here's how to update your drivers.

  1. Press Windows Key 🪟
  2. Type Device Manager
  3. Press Enter
  4. Expand the Network adapters category
  5. Right-click the network adapter you're currently using
  6. Select Check for updates... or Update driver
  7. If you're not sure which adapter you're currently connected with, try updating each one in the list

Configure Your Firewall

Configure Port Forwarding

If your router is blocking certain connections, forwarding the required ports may help establish a stable connection.
