If your problem sounds like this:

  • My game freezes completely and doesn't recover on its own.
  • The game stops responding while I'm playing.
  • I have to force close the game after it freezes.

Resolution

A game freeze happens when the game becomes completely unresponsive and doesn't recover on its own.

If the game only pauses or hitches briefly before continuing, troubleshoot Micro-Freezing or Stuttering for League of Legends or VALORANT.

WindowsmacOS
  1. Check the minimum system requirements. Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for the game you're trying to play.
  2. Update graphics card drivers. Outdated graphics drivers can cause crashes, freezes, black screens, and other visual issues, and updating your GPU drivers can help resolve these problems.
  3. Update your other drivers. Outdated audio, network, chipset, or other system drivers can sometimes cause compatibility or stability issues. Check your PC or hardware manufacturer's website for the latest drivers available for your system.
  4. Update Windows. Windows updates include bug fixes, security updates, and compatibility improvements that can affect your game and DirectX. Install all available Windows updates, restart your PC if prompted, then try launching your game again.
  5. Check and repair system files. Missing or corrupted system files or disk errors can contribute to freezing. Use SFC and DISM to check for and repair problems.
  6. Scan your system for malware. Malware and unwanted software can interfere with your game or use system resources in the background. Run a scan using your security software and remove anything it detects.
  7. Reinstall your game. A clean reinstallation can replace corrupted or missing files that may be causing the freezes.
