As TFT grows and develops, the time has come to part ways with Hextech (our shared engine with League of Legends) and greet Unreal Engine. This change allows for more dedicated tools and tech on Teamfight Tactics' side (including an upcoming dedicated Client) while giving more space for League developers to expand without worrying about impacting TFT systems.
Our video announcement covers most of the general details. Still have questions? You're in the right place.
How does this affect my account?
There are no major changes to how you use your account. You can still log in to your usual Riot Account with the same old signup information. The biggest difference is that your Preferred Settings reset with the engine swap but you can adjust your loadouts and any in-game settings again after the swap occurs. If you want to make sure you remember everything, we suggest taking notes or screenshots of your current settings before the change takes place.
Does the migration reset my currency and purchases?
Of course not! The content you purchased or earned is the heart of your TFT Account, so nothing should be lost in this migration. For PC users, RP continues to be shared across League of Legends and Teamfight Tactics. All other currencies (including Mobile exclusive ones) are also staying the same.
What's going to happen with my cosmetics?
If you want to know more about how the Unreal migration affects cosmetics, take a look at our Unreal Cosmetics FAQ.
How will this affect progression between League and TFT?
We plan on maintaining cross play progression between League and TFT, though how it currently works today may change as we move over into Unreal.
What about Little Legends in ARAM?
Yes, but only for now. The plan is to eventually discontinue support for ARAM companionship, so bring your little buddies along for the ARAM ride while you can.
What's the impact on gameplay?
While there are no intended changes in mechanics, balance, or performance with the Unreal migration, we've had enough launches to know that the initial switchover always comes with surprise issues. We expect there to be more bugs than usual during this first Set in Unreal, which is why we're planning on an extended PBE period for both Set 18 and for the new upcoming new PC client.
During the PBE periods, make sure to join the game, experiment around, report bugs, and let us know your thoughts and experiences so we know what to improve!
When is PBE taking place?
- PBE for Set 18 starts on July 28, 2026, and lasts four weeks.
- PBE for the new PC client starts September 14th.
I hear that when Set 18 goes live, I’ll still be able to play Set 17 on PC–is this real?
Sure is. Typically when a new set goes live, the previous one is retired, but when Enchanted Wilds goes live, Space Gods will remain as an active option on PC, allowing you to use your entire collection of cosmetics across our most celestially divine set. We’ll only have Space Gods active for a few patches, so enjoy your space walk or forest stroll through whichever set you’re feeling for an extended period of time.
Are Unreal downloads and patches any different?
Overall, no. Only the initial patch for Set 18 should be much larger than usual, but subsequent patches are expected to have the usual patch size. In terms of schedule, with Unreal we may eventually have a separate patching frequency and timing than League of Legends, but we don't have any immediate plans. For Tournament Realm, we expect to launch at parity with Hextech in terms of support.
As for downloading the game, things remain the same: by downloading League of Legends, you automatically download TFT as well (as long as your PC is compatible).
When is the new PC client coming out?
The new dedicated PC client should launch a few weeks after the migration on October 7th. Until then, the client remains Hextech.
Will the game still work on my device?
With the release of TFT Patch 18.1, minimum device specifications are being updated:
- MacOS: TFT will temporarily lose support for MacOS operating systems with the release of Patch 18.1, but rest assured that we're working hard to get MacOS native support back online early in Enchanted Wilds. In the meantime, your account will not be impacted, and you can continue to play TFT uninterrupted with a compatible device.
- Mobile: iOS 2GB & Android 2/3 GB devices will no longer be supported. These devices make up a very small portion of global devices with TFT installed, so most current players who play on mobile devices should be able to continue to access TFT without compatibility issues.
- PC: Minimum device specifications are Windows 10 (Version 19041+), DirectX11 (Feature Level 4.3), and Shader Model 5.
