If your problem sounds like this, you're in the right place:

  • VAN 9101: Attestation failure. This build of Vanguard cannot run on untrusted machines. Please restart your computer and try again.
  • What does VAN 9101 mean?
  • I can't launch my game because of VAN 9101.

Resolution

VAN 9101 means Vanguard couldn't fully verify your PC's current system state. This can happen when drivers, connected devices, or background software interfere with the checks Vanguard needs while your game is launching or running.

Try these steps in order. Launch your game after each step and hop into Practice Tool or a custom game when available to see if it worked. This lets you test safely without disrupting matchmade games or risking penalties if the error appears again.

  1. Update your drivers. Make sure your graphics, chipset, storage, and other device drivers are fully up to date using your PC or hardware manufacturer's official software.
  2. Disconnect unnecessary devices. Remove any non-essential USB devices, adapters, controllers, or external hardware, then restart your PC and try launching your game again.
  3. Perform a clean boot. Background apps or services may interfere with Riot Vanguard, and a clean boot helps you dial in on what exactly is giving you trouble.
  4. Check that your Windows installation is secure. Make sure your Windows installation hasn't been modified and that all Windows security features required by Riot Vanguard are enabled. Install any available Windows updates before trying again.
