If your problem sounds like this, you're in the right place:

  • VAN: RESTRICTION: 1 - UEFI Secure Boot verification failure.
  • What does VAN: RESTRICTION: 1 mean?
  • I can't launch my game because of VAN: RESTRICTION: 1.

Resolution

Before You Start

This article only applies to VAN: RESTRICTION: 1. If your error message shows a different VAN: RESTRICTION error, use the matching article below instead:

VAN: RESTRICTION: 1 means Vanguard couldn't verify that Secure Boot is enabled and working correctly on your PC. This can happen if Secure Boot is disabled, your system isn't using UEFI mode, or your motherboard firmware (BIOS) needs to be updated.

Try these steps in order. Start by checking Secure Boot, then update your BIOS if Secure Boot is already enabled and the restriction still appears.

  1. Enable Secure Boot. Secure Boot helps Vanguard verify that your PC starts in a trusted state. Follow our guide to enable Secure Boot, then restart your PC and try launching your game again.
  2. Update your BIOS. If Secure Boot is already enabled but you're still seeing the restriction, your motherboard firmware may need an update before Vanguard can verify your system correctly. Follow our guide to update your BIOS, then try launching your game again.
