Before you start
This article is for VAN: RESTRICTION: 5. If your error message shows a different VAN: RESTRICTION error, use the matching article instead:
VAN: RESTRICTION: 5 means Vanguard couldn't verify that Memory Integrity, also known as HVCI/VBS, is enabled and running correctly on your PC.
Memory Integrity is part of Windows Core Isolation and helps Vanguard confirm your system is running in a secure state. This error can happen when Memory Integrity is turned off, when virtualization is not fully enabled, or when a required BIOS/UEFI security setting is not configured correctly.
- Enable Memory Integrity. Follow our instructions on how to enable Memory Integrity. This guide covers the Windows, virtualization, and BIOS/UEFI checks needed for HVCI/VBS.
- Restart your PC. After making any changes, restart your computer, then try launching your game again.
Some Memory Integrity steps may require changing BIOS or UEFI settings. BIOS menus vary by device and motherboard, so follow the linked guide and refer to your PC or motherboard manufacturer’s official instructions if you need model-specific help.
Still having issues?
If you still see the error after enabling Memory Integrity and following any other requirement listed in your VAN: RESTRICTION message, submit a ticket to Player Support. Make sure you attach your logs so we can take a closer look.
