Before You Start
This article is for VAN: RESTRICTION with no number. If your error includes a number after VAN: RESTRICTION, use the matching article instead:
VAN: RESTRICTION means Vanguard currently requires a Windows update or security setting change before your game can launch.
Your error message should tell you which requirement needs your attention. Use that exact message as your guide, then follow the matching step below.
- Update Windows. Windows updates can include security and system service changes Vanguard relies on. If your error message says Windows needs to be updated, install all available Windows updates, restart your PC, then try launching your game again.
- Windows build 19045 or newer: Install all available Windows updates until your PC meets this minimum version.
- Windows build 26100 or newer: This requirement is only supported on Windows 11. If you're currently on Windows 10, you'll need to upgrade to Windows 11 to continue playing.
- Enable the required security feature. Vanguard may need a specific Windows security feature enabled before your game can launch. If your error message names one of the features below, use the matching guide:
