If your problem sounds like this:
- League keeps stuttering or hitching for a moment during gameplay.
- My game briefly freezes, then continues normally.
- League repeatedly pauses or skips for a split second while I'm playing.
Resolution
Micro-freezing or stuttering can look like brief pauses, hitches, or skipped moments during gameplay before the game continues normally.
If your FPS stays consistently low instead, troubleshoot Low FPS. If League becomes completely unresponsive and doesn't recover on its own, troubleshoot Game Freezing or Unresponsive instead.
- Check the minimum system requirements. Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for the game you're trying to play.
- Set Power Mode to Best Performance. If you're playing on a laptop, power-saving settings can sometimes limit performance. Temporarily switch to Best Performance and test the game again.
- Update graphics card drivers. Outdated graphics drivers can cause crashes, freezes, black screens, and other visual issues, and updating your GPU drivers can help resolve these problems.
- Update Windows. Windows updates include bug fixes, security updates, and compatibility improvements that can affect your game and DirectX. Install all available Windows updates, restart your PC if prompted, then try launching your game again.
- Perform a clean boot. Clearing up background processes can ensure other programs aren't fighting for the spotlight against your game, and a clean boot helps you clear those potential troubles.
- Check and repair system files. Missing or corrupted system files or disk errors can contribute to stuttering. Use SFC and DISM to check for and repair problems.
- Update your network drivers. Outdated or unstable network drivers can sometimes contribute to interruptions while you're playing, so check for the latest drivers available for your network adapter.
- Reset your game configuration. Old or corrupted settings can sometimes cause stuttering, so resetting your configuration files can give the game a fresh set to work with.
Stuttering When Moving the Camera or Clicking
If the stuttering mainly happens when you move the camera, move your mouse, or click buttons, try these additional steps:
- Let League handle High DPI scaling.
- Right-click the League shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Select Change high DPI settings.
- Enable Override high DPI scaling behavior.
- Set Scaling performed by to Application.
- Apply the changes and test League again.
- Lower your mouse polling rate. If your mouse is set to 1000 Hz or higher, use your mouse manufacturer's software to lower the polling rate below 1000 Hz, then test again.
- Check the minimum system requirements. Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements for the game you're trying to play.
- Check your power mode. In System Settings > Battery, make sure Low Power Mode isn't enabled while playing. If your Mac supports High Power Mode, you can test that instead.
- Update macOS. Install the latest macOS version available for your Mac. System updates can include bug fixes, compatibility improvements, and driver updates to make sure everything runs smoothly.
- Close unnecessary apps. Other apps and background processes can compete with your game for CPU and memory. Close anything you don't need while playing. You can also open Activity Monitor to check which apps or processes are using the most system resources.
- Check and repair system files. Missing or corrupted system files or disk errors can contribute to stuttering. Use FirstAid to check for and repair problems.
- Reset your game configuration. Old or corrupted settings can sometimes cause stuttering, so resetting your configuration files can give the game a fresh set to work with.
