Adding Exceptions to Your Security Software Manually
Security software such as anti-viruses, firewalls, or even security authenticators can sometimes conflict with the game launching properly.
Security software will sometimes bypass a clean boot, so when it happens, you should add the files below as exceptions to your firewall or anti-virus:
- C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\LeagueClient.exe
- C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\LeagueClientUx.exe
- C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\LeagueClientUxRenderer.exe
- C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Game\League of Legends.exe
- C:\Riot Games\Riot Client\RiotClientServices.exe
- C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard\vgc.exe
- C:\Program Files\Riot Vanguard\vgm.exe
The method to add exception to your anti-virus or firewall will vary based on the software. We recommend referring back to the documentation or support of the software you use.
If you cannot add exceptions to your security software, we recommend temporarily disabling or uninstalling it to identify the source of the problem.
Update your Graphics Card

Disable compatibility mode
- On your desktop, right-click on your game's .exe file
- Select Properties > Compatibility
- Disable Run this program in compatibility mode for...
- Click Apply > OK, then relaunch the game
Repair the Game
- Open the Riot Client and log in to your account
- Click on the small profile icon in the top-right corner
- Select Settings from the dropdown menu
- In the left column, click on the game you want to repair
- Click the Repair button at the bottom
Clear the AppData\Local cache
- Open the C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local folder
- Delete the game folder
- Go to the Riot Games folder
- Delete any game folder
Reinstall the game
If all else fails, a clean reinstallation can help out with making sure all your files are working as intended, and there's no pesky hidden corrupted files causing a ruckus.
