Your router manages traffic coming in and out of your home network. Sometimes it keeps certain doors closed by default, preventing game traffic from getting through. Port forwarding opens the right doors so the Riot Client knows exactly where to go.

Connecting from a restricted network?

If you're connecting from a restricted network (like a college campus), you'll need to provide the ports below to your network administrator so they can forward them for you. Send us a ticket if your network administrator has any questions or needs extra info.

Step 1: Obtain your default gateway and internal IP address

Windows Mac OS
  1. Press the Windows Key 🪟 + R
  2. Type cmd
  3. Press Enter to open Windows Command Prompt
  4. In the command prompt, type ipconfig
  5. Press Enter
  6. You should now see a list of information in front of you. Write down your Default Gateway and IPv4 address as you'll need these in a later step.

Step 2: Access your router's configuration page

Port forwarding can be tricky. While every router's interface is unique, you can usually configure your ports by following these steps:

  1. Open your web browser.
  2. In your address bar, type the IP address you found in Step 1 and press Enter.
  3. You will be prompted for a username and password. If you've never changed these, the default credentials are almost always printed on a sticker on the back or bottom of your physical router.
  4. Once logged in, look for a tab or menu labeled Port Forwarding, Virtual Server, Gaming, or Advanced.

If you're unsure of where to start, reach out to your router's manufacturer on how to access your router's configuration page. You can also visit reputable third-party sites like PortForward.com, which provide highly detailed, visual guides for almost every specific router brand and model.

Step 3: Forward the required ports

Now that you've located the correct settings section, you'll need to add the following rules (this applies to both Windows & Mac OS). Here's the list of ports to forward:

Windows & Mac OS
ServiceProtocol / Ports
Game Client5000 - 5500 UDP, 7000 - 8000 UDP
Riot Client (formerly PVP.Net)2099 TCP
Riot Client (formerly PVP.Net)5223 TCP
Riot Client (formerly PVP.Net)5222 TCP
HTTP Connections80 TCP
HTTPS Connections443 TCP
Spectator Mode8088 UDP and TCP
Game VoiceRange of 50 consecutive ports from 1024 - 65000 (e.g., 1024 - 1074)

Step 4: Restart and Test

Once port forwarding has been configured, restart the Riot Client and try connecting again.
