Resolution
VAN 289 can appear when software on your PC interferes with Vanguard or changes how it runs. Let’s clear out anything that might be getting in Vanguard’s way.
- Restart your PC. This gives Vanguard a fresh startup and can resolve many temporary Vanguard connection issues.
- Perform a clean boot. Background apps or services may interfere with Riot Vanguard, and a clean boot helps you dial in on what exactly is giving you trouble.
- Fully exit any remaining software. Some programs may continue running even after a clean boot. Close any recently installed software, especially overlays, capture tools, or other programs that may conflict with Vanguard.
- Temporarily uninstall your antivirus software. If you installed additional security software on top of Windows Security, temporarily uninstall it and test the game again. This helps rule out whether the software is interfering with Vanguard and causing the error.
