League Classic brings back the Rune and Mastery systems, giving you the chance to strategize before the match even begins. Even the most subtle adjustment can be the difference between victory and defeat!

Note: Although League Classic is bringing back the legacy Rune system, it won’t restore you any legacy Runes you might’ve had back then since these transitioned into the Reforged Rune system in 2018 (Runes are easier to obtain this time!).

Classic Runes

Runes enhance your champion's stats from the very beginning of the match. There are four types of Runes (Marks, Seals, Glyphs, and Quintessences) that unlock at different Classic levels. You can obtain Runes by clearing Classic Missions, reaching specific Classic Account levels, progressing through the Classic Pass, or purchasing them directly in the Classic Store with Influence Points.

  • Empty Rune Slots grant bonuses, so if you don’t have any Runes equipped or haven’t unlocked them yet, these bonuses will protect you from starting the game with a major disadvantage.

Set your Runes by filling out Rune Pages, then choose which page you'll take into battle when selecting your champion. You start your Classic journey with three Rune Pages, but you can earn more by raising your Classic level or by purchasing them with Influence Points (IP) in the Classic Store, as well as Classic Pass Coins in the Classic Pass hub.

  • Rune Pages cost 1,500 Influence Points (each).

Classic Masteries

Just like Runes, Masteries boost your champion's in-game performance. However, rather than giving a straight-up stat increase, they provide modifiers to specific aspects of the game. A Mastery might make it easier to burst down enemy champions, or grant you increased resistances whenever you're in the middle of a brawl. They're often more situational than Runes, but no less potent for it.

  • Masteries are free to use, and are unlocked upon reaching Classic level 3. You can have multiple pages at a time.
  • If you forget to set your Masteries before entering a game, we gotchu! The system automatically assigns a default page, so you’ll always start the game with some Masteries enabled

Masteries are divided into three Mastery Trees: Offense, Defense, and Utility. Each tree is further sub-divided into six different rows, and you unlock a new row for every four Mastery Points you invest in that tree. Each row is generally more powerful than the last, and some Masteries (connected in the same column by a line) require you to max out the lower-level Mastery before investing in the higher-level one. You'll have to invest 21 Mastery Points in a tree to unlock and use its most powerful Mastery, so it's often (but not always!) wise to focus on one tree before dabbling in the others.
