Ranked 5s comes with a few unique features:

  • Progression System: Your team must first play 5 placement matches to determine your tier and division. We use MMR from other game modes to determine your opponents during these provisional matches, but after that you forge your own path through Ranked 5s' unique MMR and LP progression ladders.
  • Pick & Ban Phase: Ranked 5s uses a Tournament Draft system for picks & bans (3 bans, 3 picks, 2 bans, 2 picks). Starting with Experiment 2 (September 2026), the P&B phase includes a scouting tooltip that aims to empower players to analyze their opponent's playstyle and make strategic choices before stepping foot on the rift.
  • Queue Requirements: This mode is all about solid teamwork and coordinated strategies. You'll need a full team to enter the game queue.
  • No Tier Restrictions: You're free to invite players from any skill level to join your team. From Unranked to Challenger, it's how you perform as a team that counts!
  • No Decay: Since Ranked 5s has limited availability, there is no decay penalty for not playing games.

Ranked 5s Rewards

Ranked rewards for this mode are based on the highest tier you achieved over its duration.

For example, if you start your journey in Bronze II, climb to Platinum III, but fall to Silver I by the time Ranked 5s ends, you'll receive the 2026 Ranked 5s Platinum Icon, as well as the Ranked 5s Platinum Banner

Along with the rewards above, the Ranked 5s Experiment 2 also introduces the Exclusive Ranked 5s Emote, that will be granted based on participation (criteria are still to be defined).

Experiment 1 Ranked 5s rewards start dropping on September 10, 2026, with Patch 26.18. Rather than delivering them all in one go, we’re slowly deploying them throughout the Patch’s duration, so you can expect to have them in your account by Patch 26.19.

Matchmaking

Can I progress my ranked objectives with Ranked 5s?

Nope. Ranked 5s has its own season which overlaps between our standard Solo/Flex seasons. You can only earn the season's Victorious skin and other rewards through Solo/Duo or Flex matches. That said, Ranked 5s do contribute towards your Battle Pass objectives and earn Battle Pass XP.

Can I queue up Ranked 5s by myself?

The heart of Ranked 5s is coordinated teamwork, which generally requires direct communication with your peeps. To make sure that all teams are on the same page, we're keeping Ranked 5s as a full premade queue.

Why can't we play mid-week?

Ranked 5s requires a bit of extra prep work, and we don't want that effort going to waste with high queue timers. By only enabling Ranked 5s over the weekend, we can guarantee faster matchups and a smoother experience.
