If you've already loaded into the game successfully but the display turns black during gameplay, work through the steps below to rule out common graphics, display, and software conflicts.

  1. Update Windows. Windows updates can include bug fixes, security updates, compatibility improvements, and updates to components such as DirectX that may affect game stability and display behavior.
  2. Use the dedicated GPU. If Windows is leaning on integrated graphics, switching to the high-performance GPU can help your game run more smoothly.
  3. Update graphics card drivers. Outdated graphics drivers can cause crashes, freezes, black screens, and other visual issues, and updating your GPU drivers can help resolve these problems.
  4. Temporarily disable overclocking. Pushing your hardware beyond its default settings can sometimes trade stability for extra performance, so returning it to stock settings can help rule that out.
  5. Clean reinstall the graphics driver. Old driver leftovers can sometimes keep causing problems even after an update, and Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) helps wipe the slate clean.
