Attending an Event

General Information for Attendees

How do I participate in an event?

There are currently many events hosted both online and in-person in different regions around the world. Tournaments, meet-ups, leagues, viewing parties; there’s a lot of ways to be part of the action.

Want to join an event? Simply browse the list of events on the Community Events page. If you’re logged in with your Summoner name, you can click the “Register” button to sign up for the event. Please note that some event organizers will require that you register on their site as well. Please read all instructions in the event listing.

Even if an event is full, you’ll still get a spot on the waitlist (although that’s not guarantee you’ll get a spot in the tournament).

How can I check the status of an event that I’ve registered for?

When you log into the Community events page you’ll see a box labeled “Events I’m Registered For”. Each event will have a status such as “Players Registering” or “Ended”.

I placed in a tournament which qualifies me for a prize but haven’t received anything. When can I expect to receive my prize? What should I do?

You can see if your event has been prized out by looking at the “Events I’m Attending” link and checking the current status of your event.

Once a tournament is over, the organizer must provide Riot with the information about the winners. Then we verify the results and distribute prizes. If you feel prize distribution is taking longer than it should, please contact the tournament organizer so they can reach out to us.

If you’ve already attempted to contact the event organizer and feel like you’re out of options, send an email to tournaments@riotgames.com with the following information:

      • The name of the Event
      • The Event ID. This is listed in the Events Details page, and is also in the URL for the event.
      • The server your team competed on (North America, Europe West, Europe Nordic & East)
      • The date of the tournament
      • Your summoner name
      • The tournament organizer name or summoner name
      • The prize you were supposed to get (example: 1500 RP)
      • Please do not email support or any other Riot email; they’ll just forward your inquiry to tournaments@riotgames.com.

Who do I contact if I am dissatisfied with an event or tournament that I participated in?

Please note that individual players and organizations run these tournaments, not Riot. While we provide some prizing and event listings, we don’t provide any specific support for the events themselves. We’ll do what we can to help organizers improve their events, but we’re not always able to fix issues that are the responsibility of a 3rd party organizer.

Still, if you had a bad experience at an event, definitely let us know. Your feedback is important, so please email tournaments@riotgames.com with any information about the event you want to share. Please also include the following information:

      • The name of the tournament you participated in
      • The server you competed on (North America, Europe West, Europe Nordic & East)
      • The date of the tournament
      • The tournament organizer’s name or summoner name
      • Your issues with that event

Can I receive prizes if I don’t register for a tournament?

All players for each tournament need to register or they won’t be eligible for prizing because the organizer will not see your name displayed to submit the results for the tournament. If you’re a substitute for your team, please make sure you register during the registration time, this way you’re eligible to receive prizing.

Can I change servers to participate in an online event?

We encourage you to seek out online events on your server. If you do decide to change servers, you’re responsible for purchasing server transfers to the new server and back.

I’m a first time organizer, what sort of event can I run?

First time organizers are not restricted to a specific event size. We recommend that you limit your first event to 8 or 16 teams to get the hang of it. After you’ve run at least one tournament, you can branch out.

Where do I submit my event application?

You can create an event on the Community Events page. Look for the “Create an Event” button near the top. Fill out all the necessary information and submit it to us for review. You can save your submission at any time and complete it later, but your event won’t be submitted to Riot until you submit it.

How do I know if my event has been approved or not?

There’s an “Events I am Running” section on the webpage. Click the “Events I’m Running” button and it’ll take you to a list of all of your events. Each one will have the current status. “Submitted”, “Awaiting Review”, “Approved”, etc.

How will I know if my event submission needs changes?

Once you submit an event, a Rioter will review it. If there are things that need updating, you’ll see a “Requires Changes”. Simply click the “Edit Event” button. Any field that requires changes will be highlighted and have a note next to it. Update the information and resubmit it. NOTE: The “Save” button only saves your edits for later. It doesn’t submit them for review.

What if I need to make changes after my event is approved?

You can edit your event and submit the changes, but they still must be reviewed by a Rioter. Your old information will remain public until the changes are approved. Once they’re approved, the new edits will replace the old information.

My server was not listed on the application page. What does this mean?

Currently, we only support Community Events in certain regions. We’re actively working on expanding to new regions so everyone can receive support.

What information do I need to have available when submitting my event application?

You’ll need to have your rules, competition structure (bracket or round robin, etc.) and tournament dates ready and publicly visible on your event homepage. If you don’t include your tournament rules with your submission and post your rules publicly, for example, your event will be rejected.

What is the minimum number of teams I need to have in order to submit my prized event application? What about the max?

We require a minimum of eight participating teams for events to receive prizing. We hold the right to deny prizing if a tournament cannot provide adequate proof that this requirement was fulfilled.

There is no maximum number of teams (except for first time organizers). As long as you have at least eight teams, you’re good to go.

How late can I submit my community event application?

You must submit your request at least 7 days prior to the start of your event. Anything earlier than that works, too. Don’t cut it too close! There may be changes required before your event is listed and you want to give people lots of time to find your event before it starts.

How quickly will I know if my event has been accepted or rejected?

We do our best to send a reply via email within 3 days. Due to the occasionally high volume of requests, this can vary.

My tournament was accepted. Do I need to show that Riot Games is sponsoring our tournament?

When we provide RP prizing for your tournament, we are not officially sponsoring it. Please don’t display the Riot Games logo on any banners or websites. Feel free to splash the League of Legends logo all over though, if you want. Think of the prizes we award as a bonus for helping grow and support the tournament scene.

How can I make sure late players register before my event registration closes?

Organizers can keep registration open until the scheduled END of their event. This will help accommodate late arrivals. Players must register before the end of the event in order to be eligible for prizing.

Eligibility

If I submit an event am I guaranteed prizing?

We don’t guarantee that every event application will receive prizing. To be more likely to receive prizing you need to have all of your event information available for Rioters and players to verify.

Are players in my tournament required to register for my event on the Community Event page?

Yes. All the players who wish to be eligible for prizing must register for your event on the Community Events page. The new page has a lot of features that make awarding prizes to players easier and more accurate.

Can I play in the tournament I’m organizing?

Organizers, referees and other tournament officials are not allowed to play in their own tournament to avoid a conflict of interest. Organizers are not allowed to receive prizes for an event they are running.

Prize Inquiries

Does Riot Games have a time limit for organizers to report a list of winners for an event with prizing?

Yes, the statute of limitations is two weeks from when your tournament ends. Failure to report your tournament results in that time frame could result in denial of prizing.

We strive to distribute any Riot prizing within three days of the organizer’s submission of the event results. Some events may require additional verification and take longer. You can see if your event has been prized out by looking at the “Events I’m Running” link and checking the current status of your event.

Can Riot Provide our event with swag too?

While we would love to provide merchandise and similar swag to tournaments, we’re currently unable to.
