Public Beta Environment FAQ
The Public Beta Environment (PBE) is a limited-access League of Legends realm where testers help us test "declassified" features, content and experiments that aren't yet (and may never be) ready for prime time. This is meant to foster a collaboration between players and Riot, and ensure that we share ownership of the League of Legends game and community.
Becoming a Tester
What are the requirements to sign up?
Currently we are not accepting applications for the PBE. When we open the sign ups in the future we will be sure to update this page.
This means at present there is no way to sign up to be a tester, and Riot is not sending out acceptance notifications. If you previously received an acceptance but have not used it yet, we will not be able to assist you with accessing the PBE until sign ups are restored.
How does Riot decide who gets to be a tester?
Since our goal is to get the best possible feedback to improve the game, we're looking for players who are highly engaged with League, and have proven to be a positive influence in the community. We're also looking for people who give excellent feedback. Sometimes we look for specific types of players, depending on what we're testing. For instance, if we're about to release a new tanky support champion, we might invite a batch of experienced Leona and Taric players to help us out.
In most cases, we look for highly active level 30 accounts. However, there will be times when we specifically look for lower level players in order to test features for new League of Legends players.
NOTE: We consider your toxicity level during the application process and while you are a tester in the PBE. In order to foster a healthy feedback community, we are careful to prevent toxic behavior from occurring. You can read more about how we monitor player behavior on the PBE here.
Where can I download the PBE client?
You can download the client for PC here and for Mac here. Keep in mind that downloading and installing the client won't give you access to the PBE. You'll need an active PBE account to actually log in.

PBE Account & Client
Do testers have to grind IP/XP or purchase RP?
When PBE accounts are created, they are automatically leveled up to 30 and credited with 10,000 IP and 3,500 RP. You will not be given additional IP or RP besides this amount and the IP that you earn in game. These changes can take up to an hour to process and new testers may have to restart their clients in order to see the updates.
To encourage players to continue purchasing after running out of RP, all new content that require testing will be brought down to 10 IP. The RP cost will remain unchanged and reflect the pricing on Live servers.
Your RP and IP numbers may display incorrectly even though you've been credited the appropriate amount. Try making a purchase in the store to force the PBE client to synchronize with the server.
Can I share my PBE account?
No. As part of our efforts to ensure the best possible testing environment on the PBE, we want to make sure that we're aware of exactly who is using it so we can get the right people testing the right content. Sharing your PBE account will result in permanent removal of PBE access.
What do I do if I forgot my password?
If you need to recover your password, follow these steps:
- Visit http://community.pbe.leagueoflegends.com/
- Click on "Login" in the upper right hand corner of the page.
- Click on "Forgot Password?" on the bottom of the window
- Enter your Username
You should receive an email shortly for further instructions. If you are still unable to recover your password, please file a ticket with Player Support, just like you would for your main account.
Why is my ping so high?
The PBE servers are hosted in Los Angeles, California, and are smaller-capacity than our live environments. This makes it much easier for us to update the PBE with new content every day. If you don't normally play on NA, you will likely experience higher-than-normal ping.
How is Player Behavior monitored on the PBE?
We monitor both harassment scores and reports made against PBE accounts, so if you encounter a toxic player in your game please use the report function. Testers exhibiting toxic behavior will have their accounts permanently disabled without warning or the possibility of appeal.
Why is the PBE down?
We add and modify content on the PBE every day based on feedback from our testers, so the servers will regularly be taken down for maintenance for an hour or two. During that time the server status is set to "Unavailable" and you will be unable to log in.
Why am I in a login queue?
When new content is released on the PBE, we see an influx of players attempting to login. If the number exceeds the number of players we allow on the environment at one time a queue will form. Please note that when the maximum number of players on the environment is reached, the timer on the login queue may not update appropriately.
Why is it taking so long for me to find a match?
The PBE is small in comparison to our other environments, so queues sometimes take longer to populate. If you experience longer than normal queue times, try starting a custom game or joining a different queue.
Being a Tester
Where can I find information on PBE updates?
A summary of live balance changes and new content or features will be posted every patch on the PBE community. Additionally, stickied threads will be created for discussion of new features, champions or remakes. Keep in mind many PBE changes aren't yet (and may never be) ready for prime time.
How do I report bugs?
Bugs that occur on both live and PBE should be posted in your live region's Bug forum, while bugs that only occur on PBE should be posted in the Bugs subcommunity.
Before creating a new discussion, please run a quick forum search to see if another tester has already reported the issue. If a post already exists, feel free to add more information, logs, screenshots etc. Otherwise, go ahead and create a new discussion! This guide is a great place to start for advice on how to effectively report bugs.
How do I submit feedback on new content?
Feedback on experimental content lives on the Gameplay subcommunity.
Before creating a new discussion, please run a quick forum search to see if another tester has posted the same feedback. If a post already exists, feel free to add your voice to the conversation. Otherwise, go ahead and create a new discussion!
How can I find other testers on the PBE?
Join the "Public Chat 1" Chat Room on the PBE client to coordinate with other testers. You can take the following steps to auto-join this Chat Room when you login:
- Upon starting up the PBE client go the "View your Chat Rooms Control Panel" button located in the center bottom of your friends list tab
- Click "Public Chat Room One" to join the Chat Room
- Click the gear in the top right corner of the chat window
- Click the "Autojoin on Startup" Button
