Make Sure You're Updated!

If you have any trouble with the linking of your Discord and your Riot accounts, make sure you’re on the latest version of Discord, then please try signing out and closing Discord, League Client, and Riot Client. Relaunching & signing in allows all applications to update to the latest version.

Looking to combine your social network on Discord with Riot's gaming ecosystem?

You're in the right place.

What do I get by linking my Discord and Riot Accounts?

Discord integration allows you to see detailed, real-time activity status on your Discord friends' profiles. While you could previously only display what game you were playing to all of your friends, you can now share your current game-mode, champion, session info, and even get your friends to join with a single click!

Linking your Discord account gives you the following perks:

  • See the activity of your Discord friends while in-client, provided they've also linked their Discord and Riot Accounts
  • Share your game activity across the Discord platform
  • Send game invites to your Discord friends either by right-clicking their names in-client and inviting, or by generating an invite URL to share anywhere
  • Add mutual Discord friends as Riot friends through the game client
  • Click to join your friend's party straight from Discord
  • And more!

My Discord already has your games linked. What's changing?

For starters, the way the connection works. While previously you could link your Riot Account to Discord so your Discord buddies could see your playing experience, it was a one-way linking method (meaning that you didn't have a way to link your Discord account to your Riot Account). With Discord Integration, it's a two-way street! You can see your friends' Discord activity from in-game, and your Discord friends will get a clearer picture of what you're up to when you play Riot games.

If my Discord is already linked, do I have access to all these features right away?

Not quite. Since this new two-way connection changes how Discord works with our games, we're implementing a required relink for all previously linked accounts. Jump to the end of the article for more details.

Is this available for all games, platforms, and regions?

Currently, Discord Account Linking is only available through the Discord App on PC and Mac and supported in League of Legends.

Mac users must have the Discord desktop client installed, but Windows PC users can still access some functionalities from their web app: you can receive invites and see updates normally, but won't be able to respond to game invites via web. To access all features fully, we recommend installing the Discord desktop client.

As for regions, these features are only available in locales where Riot AND Discord are both supported. Not seeing the features? Check platform availability in your region.

Is Discord chat also integrated?

Not at this time. You can rely on Riot's official in-client offerings for in-game text and voice chat.

What data does Riot share with Discord?

We only share the info needed for integration and details about your current match/status that can help  you make timely, relevant decisions about queuing up with your friends.

For example, data like your Riot ID, Discord display name/accountID, and what game a friend is playing along with match duration and score, so you know when they might be ready to join your party. In other words, it's roughly the same information you might see on a friend’s profile in your social panel, plus a few additional details like party size and status. No other personal information is shared with Discord.

Sounds great! How do I link my Riot and Discord accounts?

Before we go into details, it's important to note that Discord's integration means you can only link one Riot account to one Discord account. If you previously had multiple Riot Accounts linked to the same Discord account, you'll have to choose only one to link.

With that in mind, you can get more details on linking your account based on the game you're playing with the following article:

How can I unlink my accounts if either my Riot or Discord accounts are hacked?

For your safety, our Player Support team will be ready to assist you in case either your Riot Account or your Discord Account get hacked! The difference here is: For both cases, we can help you by unlinking the two accounts to help protect your data and minimize damage. However, our Support can only assist you in recovering your Riot Account. If your Discord account is compromised, reach out to Discord's Help Center instead.

Known Issues and Workarounds

Something not working quite right? Let's see what we can do.

Discord Integration is not working properly

This may be caused by ghost instances of Riot Client running in the background. You can try the following steps:

  • Open the Task Manager
  • Locate all instances of Riot Client and manually close them
  • Open the Riot Client again

I clicked the SmartURL and the game/Client crashed

This is likely due to attempting to launch way too many smart URLs in a short period of time. Try taking a moment between generating new ones (this can also happen if you attempt to click on your own smart URL invitation).

I invited my friends to a game but they don't see the option to join. Why not?

There are two potential ways to fix this issue:

  1. Your friend may need to update their Discord and/or Riot Client before they can accept your invite. Ask them to fully close and relaunch Discord and Riot Client so both clients can update to the latest version.
  2. Your friend may need to link their Riot and Discord accounts. Refer them to this page or the following link:

League of Legends - Discord Account Linking

Linking their accounts should fix the issue and also unlocks all the perks listed above, allowing them to jump into games faster and send you invites too.

Why don’t all of my Discord friends show up in my Riot friends list?

Right now, the integrated friends list will only include players who:

  • Have an existing Riot ID
  • Have a formal friend connection on Discord
  • Have also linked their Riot and Discord accounts

If you play with someone a lot on Discord but they’re not officially a “friend” on Discord, they won’t show up here. That’s intentional. We’re keeping your list focused on the people you actually want to queue with, not everyone from every server you’ve ever joined.

Not seeing someone? Now’s a good time to add them on Discord or have them link their account so you can play together without the extra friction.

Is there a limit to how many friends I can have in my Riot friends list?

Yes, the integrated friends list has a maximum capacity of 375.

So if you’ve hit the limit, you’ll need to remove an existing friend before adding a new one. We recommend keeping your list curated to your most active or favorite teammates so you can get the most out of your social experience.
