If your problem sounds like this, you're in the right place:
- VAN: INCOMPATIBLE OEM DRIVER - Incompatible OEM driver detected.
- What does VAN: INCOMPATIBLE OEM DRIVER mean?
- I received a VAN: INCOMPATIBLE OEM DRIVER error.
Resolution
VAN: INCOMPATIBLE OEM DRIVER means Vanguard detected a driver that doesn't meet its security requirements. This can affect Intel VMD/RST storage drivers, other NVMe or SATA drivers, and some Wi-Fi drivers.
The error message should name the driver that needs attention. Find that driver name, then follow the matching section below.
Check which driver Vanguard detected
Take note of the driver shown in the error message. Examples include iastorvd.sys, secnvme.sys, solidnvm.sys, asstahci64.sys, or mtkwl6ex.sys:
- If the driver is iastorvd.sys, follow the Intel VMD / RST Driver section below.
- If the driver is secnvme.sys, solidnvm.sys, or asstahci64.sys, follow the Storage Driver section below.
- If the driver is mtkwl6ex.sys or mentions MediaTek RZ616 Wi-Fi 6E Adapter, follow the Wi-Fi Driver section below.
Intel VMD / RST Driver
Vanguard detected that your current Intel Volume Management Device (VMD) or Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver doesn't support a security feature it needs.
Intel is preparing an updated driver that meets Vanguard's requirements. Once the driver is available, download the compatible Intel VMD/RST driver, open the installer, and follow the instructions.
Once the installation is complete, restart your PC and try launching your game again.
Storage Driver
Some third-party NVMe and SATA drivers are not supported. Replacing them with Microsoft-provided storage drivers should resolve the issue.
| Unsupported driver file | Device type | Replace with |
|---|---|---|
| secnvme.sys | NVMe | NVM Express Controller |
| solidnvm.sys | NVMe | NVM Express Controller |
| asstahci64.sys | SATA AHCI | Standard SATA AHCI Controller |
- Press Windows key 🪟 + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Storage controllers or IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
- Right-click the affected storage device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Update Driver.
- Select Browse my computer for drivers.
- Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
- Select the matching Microsoft-provided driver:
- NVM Express Controller for NVMe drives.
- Standard SATA AHCI Controller for SATA drives.
- Select Next to install it.
- Restart your PC.
If the Provider field in Device Manager shows Microsoft Corporation, your storage driver should meet Vanguard's requirements.
Wi-Fi Driver
The MediaTek RZ616 Wi-Fi 6E Adapter requires driver version 3.5 or later. Using driver version 3.4 or below may cause system instability.
Check your Wi-Fi driver version
- Press Windows key 🪟 + X.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters.
- Right-click RZ616 Wi-Fi 6E 160MHz and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
