Resolution
VAN Missing -117 usually means Riot Vanguard isn’t running, and since it’s required for your game to run properly, your client will close automatically.
Try these steps in order. We’ll start with the quickest fixes first, then move into the bigger ones if Vanguard still needs a little help getting back online. Launch your game after each step to see if it worked.
- Restart your PC. This gives Vanguard a fresh startup and can resolve many temporary Vanguard startup issues.
- Reinstall Vanguard. This refreshes Vanguard directly without requiring you to reinstall the whole game. Follow our guide to manually uninstall Vanguard, restart your PC, then launch your game again to reinstall Vanguard.
- Perform a clean boot. Background apps or services may interfere with Riot Vanguard, and a clean boot helps you dial in on what exactly is giving you trouble.
