If your problem sounds like this, you're in the right place:
- VAN: INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE - Incompatible software component detected.
- I received a VAN: INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE error.
- What does VAN: INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE mean?
Resolution
VAN: INCOMPATIBLE SOFTWARE means Riot Vanguard detected software or a driver on your PC that isn't compatible with its security requirements. Fortunately, Vanguard tells you exactly which file is causing the problem, so your only job is to search and destroy.
Try these steps in order.
- Identify the incompatible file. Take note of the file path shown in the error message (for example: C:\Windows\System32\IncompatibleDriver.sys). Taking a screenshot can help if you need to refer back to it later.
- Uninstall the associated software. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (or Control Panel > Programs and Features) and uninstall the software associated with the incompatible driver. Restart your PC once the uninstall is complete.
- Delete the incompatible file. If the software cannot be uninstalled, navigate to the file path shown in the error and delete the flagged .sys file if necessary. Restart your PC afterwards.
- Configure your DNS. If the error persists, follow our guide to configure your DNS, then try launching your game again.
- Disable any VPNs or Proxy. Make sure you're not using a VPN or a Proxy to connect to a game server, as they can cause a number of connection issues that are impossible to resolve.
- Reinstall Vanguard. Follow our guide to manually uninstall Vanguard, restart your PC, then launch your game again to reinstall Vanguard.
