Winning a game is enough of a challenge without a teammate sabotaging your efforts by bulk-selling their items or chain-feeding the enemy team. In order to restore control of your fate should you encounter this behavior, the Match Termination system empowers your team to end the match early without losing hard-earned LP or MMR.
What is the Match Termination system?
Whenever we detect severely disruptive behaviors that intentionally ruin a team’s chances of winning, the Termination system triggers a surrender vote for everyone but the offender. If the vote succeeds, the match immediately ends with the following outcome:
- The offender is penalized as per our guidelines for disruptive behavior, along with anyone in their premade group
- The affected team (teammates of the offender) doesn't lose any LP or MMR
- The opposing team gets a win
What if my team does not want to surrender?
If the voting fails, the game continues as usual, giving you the chance to turn the tides and claim victory for your usual LP/MMR. And don't worry if you don't manage to beat the odds, as you're still protected from losing LP/MMR in the case of a defeat.
We included the option to reject the vote primarily for matches that are already close to a resolution. For example, if you're actively pushing into the enemy base and are about to destroy their Nexus, but a teammate suddenly tilts, sells their items, and runs in circles, you shouldn't be forced to have victory snatched out from in front of you. And if winning seems like it'll be tough, remember that you're already protected from losing LP/MMR. Why not make one last grasp for glory?
I had a troll in my team and didn't get the termination vote. Why not?
This system only triggers for serious, confirmed gameplay offenses; it’s not meant to replace our detection systems for more moderate infractions, but to add an additional layer of protection to your gaming experience.
If you encounter disruptive behavior in your match, reporting that player remains the best way to help us investigate and take appropriate action.
